2Baba, officially known as Innocent Ujah Idibia was born on the 18th September 1975. 2Baba is a Nigerian singer, record producer, songwriter, humanitarian, entrepreneur, philanthropist and activist. His first stage name was 2face since he started his music career, but later changed to 2Baba. He is a well known successful Afro pop artist across Africa. He happens to be the first artist to win for the Best African Act Award at the 2015 MTV Europe award.
2baba, collaborated some well known artistes like in 2019, like Timi Dakolo and Cohbams Asuquo and released the awareness of the rights of children song.
Innocent Ujah Idibia ( 2Baba ) was born and grew up in Jos, Nigeria. But he is originally from benue state, Nigeria from Idoma ethnic group. Innocent attended his secondary education at the Mount Saint Gabriel’s Secondary School located at Makurdi in Benue State. 2Baba studied Business Administration and management and achieved his Diploma while at the Institute of Management & Technology, Enugu (IMT). He also used to perform at school parties and shows and even at the Enugu State University of Science & Technology. In order to pursue his music career, 2Baba later decided to drop out of school. He started composing and also singing jingles when he was attending the Institute of Management & Technology at “Fan Club at Enugu State Broadcasting Services”.
Innocent adopted the name “2Face” ( pronounced, Tu-face) in 1996. You might be wondering the reason for that stage name. Well, he said that it’s because he was trying to
demarcate his business life with that of his personal life. But 2face later officially changed his stage name from 2face to 2Baba in 2016.
Early Life In Plantashun Boiz
2Baba later moved to Lagos State where he began performing with rapper Ahmedu Augustine Obiabo popularly known as Blackface. He actually met BlackFace while he was attending his secondary school education in Benue state, Nigeria. He went on to form a music band called “Plantashun Boiz” with Blackface along with Chibuzor Orji, also popularly known as Faze.
The newly formed music band “Plantashun Boiz” released two music albums in the year 2000 which came out successful. The albums were titled “Body” and “Soul”, respectively. In 2003 they had a sold out under the “Dove Records” label owned by Nelson Brown, before they broke off the band in 2004.
The band had been a success for several years before they decided to call it off while they both went on to focus on each of their solo career. The rumored reason was that there was a beef between “Faze vs 2face” who were part of “Plantashun Boiz” music band. However, years later in 2007 they decided to come back together so they could record their third and final album together titled “Plan B”.
In many occasions, BlackFace had mentioned that 2Face was performing songs that was written by both of them but then he was not giving him any revenues that was coming out from it. The issue was later resolved amicably after some intense media battle.
Early Life In Solo Career
After the music band “Plantashun Boyz” had broken off in 2004, all the members of the band decided to pursue their music careers separately. After the disbandment, 2Baba went off to released his album in 2004 entitled, “Face 2 Face”.
Two years after the release of Faze 2 Faze, 2Baba released his second album in 2006 that was titled “Grace 2 Grace”. The album came out successful with hit music like “True Love, “One Love” and “4 Instance”. 2Baba founded Hypertek Entertainment.
His 2006 “African Queen” hit music was used as a soundtrack for the film “Phat Girlz”, the movie was which released internationally. He went on to release the experimental album which he titled “Unstoppable” in 2009 with a lead single being “Enter the Place”. The album was actually supposed to be released earlier than that. But because of issues that evolved due to album distribution, the date was then shifted from from 2008 to 2009. It was later in 2010 that 2Baba released the “International Edition” of the “Unstoppable” album.
Adding to the release of the new international album, he then added to it two more singles. Interestingly, in 2010, the international version of the “Unstoppable” album was able to win two awards at the SoundCity Music Video Awards. Other awards added were, Best African Western award, Channel O Music Video Awards and MTV Africa Music Awards under the category; Best Male and Artist of the year.
Prior to hopping out from Kennis Music Label after he released his second studio album, 2Baba went on to establish his own music record label known as Hypertek Entertainment.
In August 2016, 2Baba was announced as the first African ambassador of liqueur Campari, an Italian alcoholic. While in 2005, he was announced as the brand ambassador of Guinness beer. He also became the brand ambassador for NAFDAC. He also signed an endorsement deal with Airtel NG in 2010. After deal and expired with Airtel Nigeria, he signed another with Glo Nigeria in May 2019. By July 2019 he became the brand ambassador for a real estate firm known as Pazino Homes and Gardens. 2Baba and Wizkid were chosen as the new faces of Hennessy artistry season 2014. While in 2019, he signed another endorsement deal and became the first nrand ambassador for Oraimo.
Personal Life And Marriage
2Baba is married to Annie Macaulay, a Nigerian actress, model, movie producer, and an entrepreneur. Their marriage was held in Lagos State, Nigerian, on the 2nd of May 2012. Their white wedding was held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates on the 23rd of March 2013 which had a huge turn in of guest especially celebrities.
The lovely couples have become parents to two lovely girls namely; Isabella Idibia and Olivia Idibia.
Before his relationship with his now presence wife, 2Baba was in a relationship before with two different women namely; Pero Adeniyi and Sumbo Ajala-Adeoye. With Sumbo Ajala he had fathered two children already, on the other hand he has three children with Pero Adeniyi. When you add the numbers up you see that 2Baba has a total of seven children 3 different women. 2Baba has had life threatening events such as escaping gunshots from armed robbery that happened incident near Oshodi, Lagos State.
