David Adedeji Adeleke also known as Davido as his stage name is a Nigerian-American that was born on November 21 1992. Davido is a singer, songwriter, and also a record producer. His music is a fusion of traditional African elements along with “Global mainstream pop”.

In 2012, Davido became the winner of the Davido won the Headies’ “Next Rated award” just after he sang “Dami Duro”. “Dami Duro is one of his single track his “Omo Baba Olowo” music album. Aside “Dami Duro, he continued to release hit music as of 2013 and 2015. Davido was signed to Sony music in January 2016. After that he decided to form his own music label which he named “Davido Music Worldwide” ( A.k.a, DMW). He got few artist signed to his label at the initial, this artist included Peruzzi, Mayorkun, Dremo, etc. Davido went on to sign another record label deal In July 2016 with RCA Records which is owned by Sony Music.

Then by October 2016 released another album called “Son Of Mercy” which came along with five of his singles including, “Coolest Kid in Africa” “Gbagbe Oshi” and “How Long”. Davido had a re-negotiation with Sony music concerning his contract in April 2017 because of what was described as creative control issues. Towards the end of 2017 he released a total of five singles, among the five releases, “If” and “Fall” was a massive hit and gained a lot of attention internationally. In the Billboard history, “Fall” became the longest Nigerian pop song to stay on top of the chart.

Approaching the end of 2019 in the month of November, Davido released another music album called “A Good Time”. A Good Time album had several singles including “Blow My Mind”. As of 2019 the New African magazine listed Davido in the list of Top 100 most influential Africans. A year later, Davido released yet another studio album for the third time called “A Better Time”. The album was released on 13th November 2020. Davido became the second most followed person in Africa on Instagram as of August 2021.

Early Life

The talented singer Davido (David Adedeji Adeleke) was born in Atlanta, Georgia on 21st November,1992. Davido was born to his father Adedeji Adeleke who is popularly known for a business tycoon. While his late mother was a university lecturer. Davido has four siblings while he’s the youngest. After being born in Atlanta, Davido later attended the British International School, located in Lagos, in Nigeria. But he later moved back to the United States when he was 16 years old where he studied business administration in the university of University in Alabama, in Oakwood.

While at the University, Davido bought musical equipment which he used making some beats. His cousin known as B-Red worked alongside him along with Sina Rambo and they formed a music act known as KB International. Later on, Davido decided to focus on his music more fully and this led to him dropping out from Oakwood University and then he moved to London to work on his vocals. Davido returned back to Nigeria in 2011 but had to pushed aside his music career for a time since he wanted to honor his dad wish of graduating from University of Babcock. So because he really wanted to pursue music, his father had to pay the university to form a music department in the school( for one student, Davido). Davido graduated from the University with a degree in 2015.

Music Career

It was by 2011 that Davido started his Omo Baba Olowo studio album. The album was a fusion of Afrobeats and hip hop. To successfully produce the album, Davido had the chance to work with talented music producers such as Maleek Berry, Jay Sleek, Spellz, GospelOnDeBeatz, Dokta Frabz, Theory Soundz, Shizzi and Mr. Chidoo. Davido featured 2 Face Idibia (Now known as 2 Baba) Naeto C, Kayswitch, Sina Rambo, B-Red( his cousin) and Ice Prince in his Omo Baba Olowo studio album.

Despite some critics that album received, it still won for the Best R&B/Pop Album for 2013 and was also nominated at the Headies for the Album. At the Nigeria Entertainment Awards 2013, the album was nominated for the Best Album of the Year.

The Omo Baba Olowo album’s lead single was “Back When” and was assisted by Naeto C. The single was released in 7th May, 2011. The hit song “Back When” music was produced by Davido himself, and it was recorded in London by the “Clarence Peters”. The video of it was later posted on YouTube 3 days after. Another talked about track in the popular album was his second single called “Dami Diro” and was released on 30th October, 2011. Dami Duro was both produced by Shizzi and Davido. While it’s music video came around on January 8, 2012.

Aside Dami Duro single, another one of his single in the album is “Ekuro”. “Ekuro” was released on the 25th of January, 2012. The video edition of it was filmed by Antwan Smith in Miami.

In June 2014, Davido had a collaboration song of “Africa Rising” in June 2014 with Lola Rae, Mi Casa, Sarkodie, Diamond Platnumz and Tiwa Savage. DStv later used song in a campaign to inspire Africans for them to partake in “community-based social investment projects”. The music video was recorded by Callback Dreams, a South African production company.

In 2017 on the month of June, Davido released his hit track “Fall”. The song received a certified platinum in South Africa. As of January 2019, while it became the top 10 in New York. The music video for “fall” was directed by Daps, a Nigerian-born British. The “fall” video became the most viewed Nigerian artist video on YouTube as of December 2018 with a massive view of over 100 million.

Endorsement Deals

Davido signed ₦30 million endorsement deal with MTN on April 6, 2012. He became the face of MTN Pulse via the endorsement deal in 2012.

Davido signed another endorsement deal with Infinix Mobile on 9th, May 2012. He officially became the brand ambassador of 1xBet in May 2021. He also signed a deal and became the new brand ambassador of Martell on June 11 2021.

Personal Life

Davido is a father to three children from different mothers. His third child belongs to Chioma whom he was once engaged to.
