Olamide’s Biography – Background, Early Life, Music Career And Album

Olamide Gbenga Adedeji who is popularly known as Olamide was born on born 15 March 1989. Olamide is a Nigerian hip hop music artist. He makes his music using in Yoruba and English language. He released his first studio album titled Rapsodi, in 2011. At that time he was currently signed into Coded Tunes record label.

He later went on to establish his own record label known as “YBNL Nation”. Following the establishment, he released another album called “YBNL”. Along the album came several singles such as “Voice of the Street”, “First of All”, “Ilefo Illuminati” and “Stupid Love”.

It was on the 7th of November 2013 that Olamide released his 3rd music album and was titled “Baddest Guy Ever Liveth”. Leading singles from the album were “Yemi My Lover” and “Durosoke”. On 17 July 2013, he signed an endorsement deal with Cîroc. He was actually the first Nigerian to have signed a deal with the company.

Early Life

On March 1989 in Bariga, Lagos State, Nigeria, Olamide Gbenga Adedeji was born to Adedeji ( His father) and to his mother, Ronke Osisanya Adedeji. Apart from him are two other of his siblings, namely; TemmyGold and Eniola Olamilekan (popularly known as DJ Enimoney).

In the year 2010 when he released his first music single titled “Eni Duro”, Olamide had began his music career ever since then. That same year 2010, he was opportuned to perform at the “Hip Hop World Awards.” Olamide went to the university at Tai Solarin, where he studied mass communication but later had to drop out because of financial issues.

He is married to a woman named Adebukunmi Aisha Suleiman. Together they have two children, all boys, namely; Tunrepin Myles and Maximilian Boluwatife. It is alleged that Olamide used to have a love life with Maria Okanrende, who used to work for Beat F.M at that time.

Music Career

Olamide was first signed to a record label known as ID Cabasa’s Coded Tunes records and this record label was being managed by Toni Payne. But in the year 2012, he had left Coded Tunes where he then establish very own record label known as “YBNL Nation.”

2011 Album: Rapsodi

The first album that Olamide released was in 2011 and was entitled “Rapsodi”. His lead single on this album was “Omo To Shan”. The single came out successful while charting on different radio stations both in Lagos and all over Nigeria. Olamide’s debut offering paved way to collaborations with several artists such as Reminisce, Wizkid, 9ice, ID Cabasa and D’banj.

2012: YBNL ( New Record Label )

The following year after the release of his first album being 2012, Olamide released his second album known as “YBNL”. It came around in the month of November. The album was co-produced by Samklef, 2 Kriss, Tyrone (producer), ID Cabasa and Pheelz. It also featured important artist including Davido, Dammy Krane, Tiwa Savage, Reminisce, Kayswitch, Samklef, Base One, Buckwylla and Minus 2. The YBNL Album had several singles including “First of All”, “I lefo Illuminati”, “Voice of the Street”, and “Stupid Love”.

2013 Album: Baddest Guy Ever Liveth

The third on the list of Olamide’s studio album is “Baddest Guy Ever Liveth”. The album was released on the 7th of November 2013 and was under his “YBNL Nation” new record label. The album was recorded right from 2012 to 2013. He had several guest artist featured in the album, such as Ketchup, Pheelz, Buckwyla, Endia, Ice Prince, Pepenazi, Viktoh, Pele Pele, B.Banks, Bez and Phyno. It was entirely produced by Pheelz, except for “Sitting on the Throne”, the number 13th track in the album.

The “Baddest Guy Ever Liveth” Album had a total of four singles: “Turn Up”, “Durosoke”, “Eleda Mi O” and “Yemi My Lover”. In 2013, Afrikka Radio ranked the album 12th on the list of the top 12 best Nigerian albums of 2013. At the Nigeria Entertainment Awards “Baddest Guy Ever Liveth” won an award for the Best Album of the Year 2014. Still in 2014, The album was also nominated for Rap Album of the Year at the “City People Entertainment Awards”. While at the 2014 Headies Awards, it won for “Album of the Year” and “Best Rap Album”.

In May 2013, Olamide had debunk rumors which claimed that he had signed a deal with DB records. To have debunk the rumors showed that it was true on Olamide’s part. On his Twitter page he made clear that the rumors were false. Olamide said in an interview that he had with NdaniTV that it could have been too late for anyone to sign him.

2014 Album : Street OT

Olamide’s fourth studio Album came around on 14 November 2014. The album was still released under his own record label and was entitled “Street OT”. He described the album as a follow up to “Baddest Guy Ever Liveth album that he released in 2013. Singles in the album included Goons Mi” and “Story For The Gods”. The “Street OT” Album featured guest artist such Lil Kesh, Pasuma, Chinko Ekun, Don Jazzy, Phyno, and Reminisce. Street OT was co-produced by Young John, Pheelz and B-Banks. He explained that the ideology of the album’s title was to show his deep love for the “streets” and glorify it.

2015: Two New Album ( “2 Kings” and “Eyan Mayweather” )

For the release of yet another Album in 2015 titled “2 Kings”, Olamide had a collaboration with Phyno. The Album was released through iTunes Store and Cloud 9, announced on 1 April 2015, by YBNL Nation( Olamide’s record label) and Penthauze Music( Phyno’s Record Label). The album collaborated with different producers and featured guest artists like Storm Rex, Wizkid, Lil Kesh, Major Bangz, Pheelz, Young John and B.Banks. Before the collaboration between Phyno and Olamide on the 2 Kings Album, they had previously had several collaborations of different songs including “Dope Money” and “Ghost Mode”. Singles from “2 Kings” Album included “Confam Ni” and “Une”.

It was on 23 November 2015 that Olamide released his fifth music album was titled “Eyan Mayweather”. It was still released under his YBNL Nation record label. The production was handled by Young Jonn, Pheelz, B Banks and I.D. Cabasa. The Eyan Mayweather Album is a follow up to earlier released “2 Kings”, The album which had a total of 21 tracks with zero single.
